Gynecologic & Urologic Interventions

Interventional radiology can be used to treat gynecologic and urologic conditions, such as uterine fibroid cysts in women or scrotal varicosities in men. The Vascular and Interventional Specialists of Florida in Miami, Florida commonly performs the following interventions:

  • Nephrostomy tube placement – Used to decompress and drain an obstructed passageway, typically in the renal system
  • Ureteral stent – A thin tube is inserted into the ureter to enable urine flow from the kidney
  • Varicocele embolization – Blocks blood flow to varicoceles in the testes
  • Uterine fibroid embolization – Blocks blood flow to fibroids in the uterus
  • Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) - An x-ray is used to examine the inside of a woman’s uterus, fallopian tubes, and surrounding area for blockages
  • Fallopian tube recanalization – Used to diagnose and treat blockages in the fallopian tubes
